Not quite sure what to expect when I started reading. Georgia came across as a strong FMC and Ryu as a typical misunderstood grump, lol. I did enjoy the interactions the two had but some was rushed and the initial meeting, I struggled a bit as it seemed so out of character with Georgia. It does end on a cliffhanger but it looks like the next book will be out in just a few months.

  2. SecludedHarmony

This book was a phenomenal read from beginning to end, it is filled with intrigue, and sexual tension. This story follows Georgia who finds herself in a precarious situation early on in the story and she goes to find a solution to the problem she is faced with. I really loved her as a main character, she was feisty and broken, and filled with passion. I managed to really zoom through this book and didn’t want to put it down, I wanted to savour every little detail and found it extremely easy to be lost within the world. The end of this book makes you yearn to read more of this world and I definitely look forward to seeing where this series goes in the future. I would definitely recommend this story, this is a spicy story so you may want to take this into consideration if this is not your vibe or if you are of a younger age.

  3. Dyanna

OMG! This was an intense read. Georgia is a princess, who lost her hearing to a disease. She is betrothed to a prince from another kingdom, only the prince and his brother are complete jerks, and have nefarious plans, so she decides to run away and seek help. She goes to the drakes, who are descendants of dragons, and considered monsters by humans, but she is desperate. The Drake king, Ryu, knows Georgia wants something, but isn’t sure what, though he does have an extreme protective instinct when it comes to her. His brothers, Desmond and Ira are intrigued by Ryu’s reaction to Georgia, and also slightly interested in her. Story is really interesting and pulls you in quickly. Does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so definitely looking forward to the next book.

Well written, great storyline and wonderful characters. Ms. Bedford has once again developed a very interesting “world”. Can’t wait for book 2.

  5. Michalle

Georgia has been through a lot and life gets even more complicated. She is a strong, feisty FMC. Being deaf makes her an original and fascinating character. The drakes are possibly her salvation and she going to do anything to get their attention. The story is very engrossing and I’ve become invested in these characters. The story ends in a cliffhanger but I’m not mad about it. I can’t wait for the next book.

  6. christinaraven

I thought this story was an interesting read as the main character is deaf. But the story did draw me in and I had to see what was going on and how it would all end up when Georgia finds the dragons. Good guys and bad guys and dragons add to all the fun.

I collect Alice in Wonderland editions and retellings. So, once I stumbled into the Reverse Harem and indie published world I also discovered the Wonderland inspired books by Erin Bedford. It was the moment I fell in love with her writing, her storytelling and the fantasy worlds she creates. I’m therefore always very excited when I get an e-mail from BookSprout to tell me that a new review copy is available! And I was especially looking forward to this one! That cover is gorgeous! And damn! The first few chapters of this book were quite heavy! I was glad that Bedford didn’t go into too many details, because already the summary of what had happened made me quite sick. However, it also made it easy to believe why the heroine in this story decided to take a leap of faith and to search for help in a very unlikely place. If you’re desperate and really have something to fight for, fear is no longer an obstacle. I personally would have loved to see and learn much more about the politics of the Monsters. It felt like we got a glimpse of their society but since they didn’t really trust our heroine yet it feels like there has to be more to discover. Or maybe there is not, which would hopefully give everyone a reason to fight. Because if you’re just surviving and not really living, what’s life worth? I can’t wait to see how that will all play out! Just like I’m really curious about the romance and how it will develop. In this book it’s clear that the connection between our heroine and her monster is more lust than really love. However, by the end of the book a lot of cards are on the table, which means that there might also be room for the characters to start building a more emotional connection. I absolutely can’t wait to see that happen, because it’s very clear the spark is there! It’s a really addictive first book and I can’t wait to get more!

This was a pretty good read. I was quite curious to see where the author would go with the story and honestly it was in the same likes as some of the web comics I’ve been reading reading lately. The characters were interesting and had some growth. The plot unfolded in a great way and I am eager to see where the story goes in the next book. Four out of five stars.

  9. Natureofjade

All I want to know is when does the next book come out because I NEED it. This book sucked me in from the beginning. I loved everything about Georgia. She is smart, caring, strong, etc etc. Ryu holds a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to see what happens between the two of them in the next book. The bad guys really need to get theirs and I’m ready for it.

  10. Nitwolf78

since the series that I loved by this author is over, I was not sure what to expect with starting over with a new series, new characters, and new problems. This book definitely eased the ache in my heart. There was a risk when dealing with someone with a disability. Not that they shouldn’t be represented in stories, but whether or not you could do that disability justice because you risk it feeling forced. I think the frustrations and struggles that not being able to hear would cause were not forced but a part of the story naturally. So really enjoyed this book and looking forward to seeing how everything develops

Georgia finds herself in a perilous predicament early on as she faces her issues head on. She refuses to back down and takes what she wants when she sees it, even if she has been knocked down by life in the past. The passion between her and Ryu sizzles between them. But shocking secrets and a betrayal come to light that changes the fate of them both. What will Ryu do about Georgia’s deceit with the cliffhanger we were left on?

  12. Cleocutie

Interesting story with plenty of tension, what promises to be an interesting political situation, and the starts of love.

  13. Cpj2015

Well, i devoured this book in one sitting. Georgia is a unique lead character. I haven’t many books with a character that has suffered from hearing loss, and it added a unique element to her story. Ryu is the best kind of broody king. I cannot wait until book 2.

  14. Arydia

This is an amazing book. Definitely gotta check your triggers. So well written and I loved this feisty heroine

  15. Veronique

Courting her monsters is the first book in a new serie by Erin Bedford. Georgia have a big problem and she’s gonna need help if she wants to solve it. For this help, she’s gonna need to play a part of a prisonner and hoping that Ryu will accepts or risking her life. But if she not risking something she might as well be already dead. For her kingdom she will do anything. I have really loved this book and with the cliffhanger it left us with, can’t wait to read the second one in the serie.

  16. EC

Really enjoyed this book. I like how determined Georgia is to protect her people and how being deaf hasn’t broken her spirit. Ryu is your typical alpha male but I love how he is with Georgia. I’m waiting to be won over by his brothers though so hopefully they have more dialogue in the next book! Can’t wait for the next installment, just wish each book was a little longer!

  17. Ashley

I love when a main character is unique compared to most typical stories available. Georgia is deaf and this puts her at a great disadvantage but one that shes overcoming with grace. She is a strong female lead and isn’t letting her kingdom go down without a fight. Her betrothed needs to be put in his place and I can’t wait for more of the series for Georgia and the Drakes to do just that! This book kept me interested the entire way through and sometimes the first book in a series takes me a while to get into it. This did not! Great job Erin!

  18. Book_Lover_97

Georgia has an intriguing story from the beginning. Right from the beginning she already has a situation to deal with. Ryu and Georgia are drawn together with lots of tension. This is a fantastic slow burn monster romance that is only the beginning for this series.

  19. Lbing

This was an awesome series opener and an intense read. Princess Georgia was a fab fmc – deaf from an illness, she found a way to thrive in her kingdom. However, she got matched to a rather evil fellow with nefarious plans for her and her people. After torture and abuse by him and his brother, she fled in the night to get help from an unlikely source – the Drakes. These people were descendants of dragons so they were unusual looking and considered monsters by most humans. King Ryu was a perfect specimen of a dragon king, and rather broody about it, too 😉 He and Georgia definitely had sizzling chemistry and while they don’t love each other, you could see their relationship developing and the potential is so hot! I really found myself totally entranced by this story and I’m dying to get the next book to see how things continue to unfold. Expect drama, danger, courage, an evil villain and steam to fully grab you and make this a one-sit read. Well done!

  20. KimKim

loved it !! a great start for a new series !! love Georgia and Ryu and his brothers… this is their story..a fast paced action packed drama…Princess Georgia flees to get help.. she goes to the drakes…King Ryu is intrigued and so are his brothers… will they help her ? she must court them… so good !!!

  21. Alister

I love a good story with a good female mc and this one is fantastic. Our female mc Georgia is strong, dependant and for a twist she is also deaf. Our storyline, her journey is exciting and thrilling as she risks everything to save her kingdom and heads for the dragons descendants the drakes. Ryu Is our intriguing male mc who finds himself drawn to Georgia though he doesn’t understand why. A fantastic slow burn romance with a little spice but not too much and an entertaining storyline that holds onto you till the end and I am looking forward to more.

  22. LZR

Good first book, not too much steam. Left you wanting more, I will definitely be reading more from this author.

  23. Samina

An amazing story. Georgia is the daughter of the King of Kinkos. She is supposed to marry the Prince of Plumus. But after learning of his plan to marry her and then kill her to take over her lands, she decides to get help frim the drakes. So she and her handmaiden Aryn set out to the drake lands. When they get to drake territory they are captured and taken to the drake king, Ryu. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but a wonderful story. Cant wait to read the next installment. Thanx.

  24. LeMiliere

This is the first book in a new series, it did intrigue me and I am curious to see where the author goes with the story in the next book. That said the characters are interesting and showed some growth as the plot unfolded.

  25. Loubie73

Oh my god! This is the start of what is going to be another bloody amazing series. I absolutely fell in love with Ryu and absolutely hated Cal and Lu, evil doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about them which just goes to show how brilliantly written this book is. To feel such disgust and hate for 2 fictional characters in only a few chapters is the work of a genius. The book finished too quickly! I was so involved in what I was reading I honestly didn’t realise that it was the last word until I reread it a couple of times. Need to have the next book in my hands immediately! Trust me you will regret it if you don’t read this book.

  26. TXClasen

I cannot wait to see how this storyline advances in future books. Nice buildup of characters and storyline. The details of the villains and their actions make sure they are hated. Great play on FMC’s disability and the powers of the MMC which breech the communication barrier.

  27. ChrisL

This is a book about trying to protect her kingdom. Georgia has lost her mother and her hearing at a young age. She has been raised by her mothers handmaiden. When she finds out what Cal is like and who she is to marry to combined their kingdoms. What will she do? Will she leave or stay? Will she get the Drakes help or will she end up suffering more?

  28. Gandolf174

Erin has done another fantastic job starting a new series. Lovely world building and the protagonist is excellent. Can’t wait to see how this one pans out.

  29. Carlag

This book was a great start to what’s going to be a great series. I look forward to more in this series and can’t wait for the next book.

  30. P W

Exciting, thrilling and more. Started as a plaything and ended up being more. Storyline was superb and characters were great

  31. Alison

Princess Georgia lost her hearing and her dear mother around the same time, she doesn’t need more trouble. To protect her people, Georgia is prepared to go far, but can she put up with the cruelty of her betrothed? Or does she have other options? I hate Cal and Lu (I can’t wait for them getting what they are owed). I am loving Ryu’s character. I loved this intriguing story, Georgia’s strength (although she is disadvantaged), and I am looking forward to what happens next.

  32. Juanita

I enjoyed reading this book, the storyline is entertaining and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

  33. Jennifer

Courting her monsters is an interesting new series by this great author. I found myself immediately drawn into this great story.

  34. Nan

I’m already in love with this series! Erin Bedford writes wonderfully human monsters and fantastically monstrous humans and that talent is fully on display here. A princess puts a dangerous plan into action to save both herself and her kingdom – and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

  35. Xjennoe

This fantasy romance had deftly crafted world building. There was plenty of angst, which I know plenty of people love in a romance, though it was a little much for me personally. There was plenty of action and danger to keep the pacing quick and the stakes high. The development of the romance was swoony and the spicy scenes were quite satisfying. I recommend this romance for people who like more angsty, a little dark fantasy romances.

  36. LisaH

It’s a start… I though Georgia was an interesting lead. She lost her hearing, is a princess, is about to marry Cal (with a horrid brother) who is equally horrid. She needs to marry in order to save her kingdom. But how will she get out of her betrothal? Cliffhanger.

  37. trufriends

not many books have a main female character that is deaf. I liked that this book has this “feature” (I’m not going to say disability). This book does leave off in a cliffhanger and leaves me wanting the next book now.

  38. Melissa81

I really liked this book, it is the first book where one of the main characters has some form of a disability and that she has had to put up with her betrothed Cal and his brother do those things to her, in order to save/help her father and her kingdom is very brave. The fact that the drake king was able to talk to her and she could actually hear him in her mind was brilliant. I cannot believe that it ended the way it did, I hope that the nest book in the series I find out whether or not the drake king will help Georgia and her handmaiden and the rest of her kingdom. I cannot wait to read the next book.

  39. JennT

Georgia is a princess in a horrible situation – her kingdom is in trouble, her betrothed is a human monster, and she has no one to turn to for help… or does she? When she rides into the forest at night and is taken captive by drakes (dragon-human hybrids), she’s brought before their king, who is intrigued by her. King Ryu knows not all is as it seems, but he hasn’t figured out her game… yet. I loved Georgia’s fire and the determination with which she refused to let her hearing loss keep her down. Exciting things are to come in the next book, I can just feel it!

  40. Deb5258

I loved the characters in this imaginative story. I loved her character – strong and absolutely fascinating in her characteristics. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. Great story.

  41. Sue

Courting her monsters by Erin Bedford. Book 1 of The Monsters You Know. I live my life in silence. Until them. To save myself and my kingdom, I will have to play the part of their plaything. Except I’m not playing anymore. I’ll wrap these monsters around every inch of me and take what I want until there’s nothing left but me. What happens when it’s all over? Will I want to go back to my life of silence or maybe…just maybe I like courting the monsters. A great read. I did like the story. I’m looking forward to the next book. 4*.

  42. Juliz

Courting her monsters romance Was an different interesting wonderful paranormal romance story with entertaining characters

  43. Michelle V

Courting Her Monsters is Georgia’s story and she goes through a lot in this book. I definitely recommend you set aside time to read this book because once you start you won’t want to stop until the last page and after the cliffhanger ending I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. The storyline is interesting, the characters are intriguing, and this captivating story held my attention from beginning to end.

  44. Jennydm

Georgia is the princess of Kinkos and is betrothed to Prince Calahan. Cal and his brother Luis are not all their cracked up to be. The princess can’t hear due to an illness and her kingdom is on the verge of poverty and ruin. She turns to the drakes for help. King Ryu is not what she expected and a hot, steamy ride ensues. A very intriguing take on dragons and princesses. Can’t wait for the next book.

  45. Dawnm

I love Erin she delivers me a fabulous story with wicked good characters! I devoured this in one sitting it is mother ducking good! I eagerly await more from this wicked good world!

  46. Nicole

This book can easily be read in one sitting. Georgia is a unique lead character. I haven’t many books with a character that has suffered from hearing loss, and it added a unique element to her story. Ryu is the best kind of broody king. Book 2 is going to be very interesting.

  47. MommaMea

I couldn’t put this book down! I have always loved dragons, but this story – the broody and sexy King Ryu !!!!! He is strong, smart, caring, tempting, temperamental and more. And then there is Georgia- a firey princess who won’t let anything stop her. I love the unique characteristic that she has (don’t want to spoil it). I love how Ms. Bedford handled this characteristics. The princess continued to impress me throughout the story. Her determination and dedication and love for her people- wow. I loved the love and special bond with Ayrn. They have a beautiful friendship. I can’t wait for book 2!

  48. Lene

Not a bad series opening, but there were flaws that were forgotten to be considered in the plot, and unfortunately with each one I realized my enthusiasm lowered a bit. Georgia is a brave but deaf princess that learned to live with her handicap and found a way around. Yet now that she is supposed to marry a brutal and cruel prince to help her kingdom, she needs a desperate plan. Running to the drakes, she tries to seduce the king to secure his help – but that’s not without a risk either. I welcomed the chance to read a steamy PNR with a deaf heroine, yet exactly Georgia’s part wasn’t handled well when it comes to details. No one noticing the princess going missing (she escaped way too easily), hearing her screams when abused (she is deaf, not mute), or hear her sneaking around (she can’t assess if she is quiet enough). The romance part is a rollercoaster, sometimes steamy sometimes full of annoyance on both sides. With the cliffhanger at the end though, I’d be interesting how this can develop further.

  49. Michaela

It’s a nice book. I got a little bored at first, probably because of how the story looks like at the start but later as I keep on reading, I got more interested and excited on what to happen next. It’s not an average romance fairytale story with charming princes and knight in shining armor. Looking forward to the sequel.

  50. JY

The is a tantalizing blend of intrigue and treachery, along with some Dungeons and Dragons thrown in for spice. Princess Georgia and the dragon king Ryu are a feisty couple. The real monsters may surprise you.

  51. Ceciliaa

I absolutely fell in love with this book! ** will include spoilers ** So lets start from the beginning, I absolutely love that the MC is deaf and everything that revolves around it. To me, it truly makes this book stand out amongst many others. The story line and plot are really interesting in my opinion and had me hooked! I do wish there was more world building in the very beginning of the book, I did find myself having to reread things to make sure I understood lol but it truly got better once she met with the drakes and entered their world! I love seeing Georgia’s character development! Going from a timid scared abused girl, to a woman taking charge and doing whats needed to be done! (Although, withstanding the abuse from Cal and Lou made her far from weak in the beginning). I hope we see more of Ira and Desmond although I know they don’t play too much of role, Obviously Ryu is the Main Character Daddy ? but they truly were enjoyable! Can’t wait to see how everything turns out in the next book(s)

  52. Babs

The first part of the Monsters You Know, Princess Georgia and the dragon king Ryu’s saga begins. The story held my interest until I came to the carry over ending. I will be reading the next story.

  53. CC1012

Very interesting book, took me a while to get into the book but once I was it was quite good. Great plot to spice ratio, dialogue flowed really well. Hate the cliffhanger but anticipating the second book. Characters were well developed.

  54. Kelsey M

3.75/5 stars! This was a good start to the series. I enjoyed getting to know Georgia and her ‘monsters.’ I liked the world-building and the plot made sense. My struggle was with the characters. It felt like the MMCs were rather 2-dimensional at times. There were places where you could have traded one out for the other without it changing the story at all. That said, I was really pulled into the world and want to see what happens next.

  55. Cath

This is book one of The Monsters You Know and the main character is Princess Georgia of Kinkos, who is being pushed into an arranged marriage to help save her kingdom. Her father has been weakened after the death of his wife, the Queen, three years ago from an illness that spread through the kingdom and others, which also took Georgia’s hearing from her. She has been left in a world of silence ever since, with her father and staff in the palace learning sign language to help her communicate, but she hasn’t used her voice much, with nearly everyone treating her differently now. A prince from one of the neighbouring kingdoms, Plumus, has come to Kinkos looking for her hand in marriage. Prince Callahan (Cal) has come with his brother Luis (Lu), and all Georgia can hope is that he is kind and won’t ignore her as being broken. She would marry a drake if they would treat her with respect and save her kingdom from ruin. But she soon finds her betrothed is far crueller than she could have ever expected. He and his brothers are monsters who are treating her as their prisoner, pushing her mind and body, knowing she can’t tell her father or their kingdom will be overrun. Only her handmaiden, Aryn, has seen what these men have been doing to her. Aryn wants her to tell her father, but doing that Georgia knows, will leave their kingdom in ruin and open to other kingdoms overrunning them. Overhearing the two brothers speaking late one night, with Georgia lip reading and Aryn hearing what was said, they both find out exactly what diabolical plans the prince and his brother have for her and her father, as well as their kingdom, and even the drakes! Georgia can only think of one option being left open to her and that is to ride into the forests where the drakes are thought to live and see if she can get in front of the king of the drakes and ask for his help. It won’t quite be as easy as she had hoped and she may wonder if she has escaped one set of monsters, to be with another. She offers herself to the drakes for the sake of her kingdom and the king decides to push her to see exactly what she means by that and she is separated from her handmaiden. She worries about what exactly she has let herself in for, but does find herself attracted to the king, Ryu, and his two brothers, Ira and Desmond. She also wonders where Aryn has been taken, but soon finds her with the female drakes, who keep separate from the male drakes for safety from the males and have a lot more power over them than she expected. They are as fierce as the male drakes, knowing how to fight and taking multiple males to boost the chances of having young. Something that is completely different in Georgia’s normal world. Ryu finds himself becoming more and more intrigued with the feisty princess and is shocked at what Cal and Lu have done to her. He is wary of what she truly wants from him and his people and will test her, to find out the truth. So much more to come from this cracking storyline and I can’t wait to read the next one, as it draws you in and makes you want more.
